1. About these terms

These terms of use explain the basis on which you may use the SchoolFinder website. By browsing, searching or creating an account you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.

We may update these terms from time to time. The version published on this page is always the current one, and the date above tells you when it last changed.

2. What SchoolFinder is

SchoolFinder is an independent directory of schools in England. It is an information service only. We are not a local authority, we are not part of the Department for Education or Ofsted, and we play no part in school admissions. Nothing on this site is an offer of a school place, and nothing on it should be treated as legal, financial or educational advice.

3. Where our information comes from

School records are derived from the Department for Education's Get Information about Schools register and from Ofsted's published management information on state-funded school inspections. Both are UK government open data, reproduced under the Open Government Licence v3.0.

Government data is published in periodic releases and a school's circumstances can change between them. Ofsted judgements in particular may be superseded by a more recent inspection than the one we hold. Always confirm anything that matters to your decision directly with the school, with your local authority, or on the official GOV.UK and Ofsted services before acting on it.

4. Accuracy and availability

We take reasonable care to reproduce official data faithfully and to keep the site available, but we do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that every record is complete or current. To the extent permitted by law we exclude liability for any loss arising from reliance on information published here.

If you spot something that looks wrong, please tell us using the contact form and we will check it against the source data.

5. Your account

If you create an account you are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for activity carried out under your login. For security we temporarily lock an account after three consecutive failed sign-in attempts. Please tell us promptly if you believe your account has been used without your permission.

We may suspend or close an account that is used to misuse the service, to publish inaccurate information about a school, or to breach these terms.

6. School listings and paid placements

Every school in our coverage area is listed free of charge. Schools may claim their listing and may pay for an enhanced or featured placement. Paid placements are always labelled as such.

Payment never changes a school's Ofsted grade, its official data, or its position in a distance-based or relevance-based search result. Where a school supplies its own description, photographs or open-day details, that content is the school's responsibility and not ours.

7. Acceptable use

You may use SchoolFinder for your own personal or professional research. You may not scrape, bulk-download, resell or systematically copy the site or its database, attempt to interfere with its operation or security, or submit content that is unlawful, defamatory or misleading.

8. Intellectual property

The SchoolFinder name, design, written guides and the compilation of the directory are owned by Qu-Ten Ltd. Underlying public sector information remains Crown copyright and is used under the Open Government Licence v3.0.

9. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect and how we handle it. It forms part of these terms.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
